Maja Djordjevic (b. 1990) earned her bachelor and masters degree from the Universiti of Arts in Belgrade, Serbia, where she continues to work and live today. Her paintings depict anonymous women sketched out in an early kind of MacPaint program, where squares of color are so large as to prevent too much detail. These figures are used as symbols of feminine power, pleasure and pain; and while being tiny and barely marked out as a girl, they explode with vitality and even positivity. Djordjevic has had solo shows at The Hole, New York, U10 Art Space and Gallery KM8, Belgrade, Serbia, and Dio Horia, Mykonos, Greece. Recent group shows include Once Upon a Time in Mayfair by Philips X in collaboration with Dynamisk, in London, New Mediations at MODEM Modern and Contemporary Arts Centre in Debrecen, Hungary, and XU group show at Galerie Rundgænger in Frankfurt.
