The canvas works of the New York artist Matt Hansel combine old masterly painting with pop cultural history. They pose a challenge for the viewer, as Hansel plays with perspectives and lines of sight. Through the use of classical trompe-l’oeil effects, distorted comic figures and forms of design reminiscent of the digital computer world in their aesthetics, epochs in the cultural and media history of mankind merge together. Matt Hansel describes himself as a child of the change from an analog to a digital world and his works are his visual consequence of this development.
