b. 1986, Worcester, MA
Morgan Blair (b. 1986, Worcester, MA) creates paintings with airbrush and sand or matte medium that exist in a realm of quasi abstraction and digital aesthetics. Often taking inspiration from claymation and sketching out the painting with clay, the paintings have a 3D sculptured quality to them that defies resolution. Their word-jazz spam titles pile a bunch of nonsense ideas from the internet in your head, but only further baffle your notion of what you might be looking at. A challenging palette and proliferation of bright gradients make the works feel screenic and other-worldly.
Her first solo show TL;DR was in September, 2017, her second full gallery show I’m Holding A Sword. And An Axe. I’m Gonna Do Nothing was in October, 2019. Blair has exhibited at Paul Kasmin, The Journal Gallery, Richard Heller Gallery, Thierry Goldberg, and Andrew Rafacz among others. She has also done large murals in The Netherlands for Stichting Street Art Foundation and at the Surf Lodge in Montauk, NY.
Blair lives and works in Queens, NY.
