Love Focused Like a Laser

The Hole is proud to present our yearly party for Art Basel Miami Beach with the Morgans Hotels Group. This year UK artist Matthew Stone will use the occasion to mark both the birth of an interdisciplinary art collective and the premiere of their operatic performance. His newly formed creative network and performance, both titled Love Focused Like a Laser, debut poolside at Shore Club on opening night of the fair.

In our yearly celebration of art and music, this piece will integrate dance, performance art, music and fashion with an installation of new video work to create a hybrid and total artwork. Collaborating with cutting edge musicians, a young cult fashion label, radical performance artists and experiential designers, this artwork will be a true celebration of the overlap of disciplines and the non-hierarchical creative compositions crucial to young artists today.

For this artwork, Stone has worked with music director L-Vis 1990, designers Hood By Air, musicians Kelela and Zebra Katz, performance artists boychild and Andre J, choreographer Madeline Hollander, sex writer Karley Sciortino, model Shaun Ross and environmental designer AJ Gvojic of Thunder Horse Video. Love Focused Like a Laser is produced by Vivan Thi Tang. The 20-minute composition features an evolving video sculpture, ballet dancers, original musical compositions and innovative costuming and styling.

This work brings to life and duration the ideas and intentions that might remain static in Stone’s gallery artworks, and is a powerful communication of his vision of the ways in which life and art can interconnect. Stone is an artist who has always worked across disciplines to promote a philosophy of optimism as cultural rebellion and here connects other like-minded artists from different fields to create a living example of it.

The Hole is a contemporary art gallery located in New York City committed to supporting the young creative community through not just exhibitions but also events including album releases, book signings, poetry readings, performances, lectures and all manner of artistic activities.
