The Hole is pleased to announce a solo presentation of new works by Matthew Hansel. With six new medium-sized oil paintings, Hansel continues his exploration of medieval monsters and 70s utopias remixing art styles and exotic ideas direct from the depths of his unbridled mind. The allure of the repulsive and the carnal tantalizes viewers, as does his recurring devil character above. Matthew Hansel (b. 1977) holds an MFA from Yale University and has shown at Brand New Gallery, Galerie Droste, PM/AM, Padre Gallery, Joshua Liner and many more, including his 2019 debut solo show at The Hole “Giving Up the Ghost” and his 2021 Tribeca exhibition “Inner Demon Delectatio.”
