The Hole is proud to participate in NADA Miami Beach for the fourth year, presenting works by Kasper Sonne, Matthew Stone, Evan Robarts and many more in a thematic booth project about the transformation of the artist’s studio.
In this “post-studio” moment we find many artists no longer occupy the traditional painter’s studio, with buckets of brushes poking about, a crusty palette table, the smell of turpentine and linseed oil with an assortment of inspirational materials pinned up to the walls. Studios visits today might encompass a laptop on a kitchen table, a loom, a kiln, a spray booth; chewing on the end of a brush while perched on a paint covered stool suddenly feels very vintage.
Nonetheless, we find that many of the artworks today–including new directions in abstraction–are about painting and about the concerns that create such a traditional studio experience, though the works are no longer made in the same way. Our booth will juxtapose these seemingly contradictory approaches.
