PRINTED MATTER VIRTUAL BOOK FAIR

This February, Printed Matter will launch its first Virtual Art Book Fair (PMVABF), presenting more than 400 exhibitors from over 40 countries. Since 2005, Printed Matter’s Art Book Fairs have hosted international exhibitors featuring a wide variety of published works—from zines and artists’ books to rare and out of print publications, and contemporary art editions. Held shortly after the 15th anniversary of the inaugural NY Art Book Fair, this online Fair gathers our NY and LA Art Book Fair communities and expands the Fairs’ reach to welcome more exhibitors and visitors than ever before.

The Hole has partnered with Anteism Books to exhibit at PMVABF. Don’s miss a new sculptural book by Misaki Kawai and Eric Yahnker’s monograph, 10 Years. Since opening in 2010, The Hole and Anteism Books have produced artist books and monographs, extending the work of over 200 artists who have exhibited with the gallery.

MOKO MOKO DOKI DOKI
Misaki Kawai

Misaki shares open and inviting works with the public to build connections through art. Her giant pettable, combable sculptures with Emoji-like faces have been scaled down for her new artist book Moko Moko Doki Doki. The edition contains six different covers (red, green, blue, yellow, white and pink)

The book documents Misaki’s production sketches, sculptures and paintings which show the building blocks of the world, “chu” (kiss), “suki” (like), “peko peko” (hungry), “pero pero” (licking), “kuru kuru” (spinning). Using mimetic word pairings Kawai creates a zone of creative play; bold, colourful and immersive.

10 YEARS
Eric Yahnker

10 YEARS is the first comprehensive book on the artist Eric Yahnker, capturing a decade of art and exhibitions. From early graphite drawings in 2008, through to a solo exhibition in New York at the end of 2018. The subject of Yahnker’s work has always been closely tied to the cultural and political upheavals in America, these ten years (2008-2018) also reveal the seismic shift in American culture itself during that decade. Three hundred and twelve pages of high quality reproductions of his virtuosic draftsmanship skills in graphite, charcoal and pastel are emphasized, as are his installation and sculptural works. Approaching a catalogue raisonné, this handmade, limited edition monograph is a critical look at an important period in the artist’s career as well as a shoulder-check on a decade of American culture.
